A Stately Sentinel with Shifting Golden Horizons
Hosta 'Country Warrior' is a large variegated hosta bred by Don Dean from the cross of H. 'Sagae' and H. 'Russ O'Harra'. Its blue-green leaves carry a lutescent margin that opens bright yellow in spring and softens to pale yellow by midsummer. A thick, waxy bloom coats the surface, giving the foliage a coveted glaucous sheen. It thrives in Canadian shade gardens across zones 3–9. Our stock is a direct division from the originator's own plant, grown and verified at our Bécancour, QC trial fields.
-
Dynamic Colour Shift: Margins transition from piercing bright yellow in spring to a soft, sophisticated pale yellow as summer matures.
-
Originator's Stock Heritage: Our inventory descends directly from the hybridizer's own plant, ensuring elite genetics and true cultivar integrity.
-
Architectural Upright Habit: The vase-like mound creates a commanding mid-border specimen, with space beneath for smaller perennials to tuck in neatly.
-
Glaucous Cerulean Foliage: A waxy bloom coats both leaf surfaces, producing a sapphire-grey sheen that performs beautifully in northern latitudes.

Grower's Tip: The lutescent margin creates a wonderful sense of movement as the season progresses. We wait for this colour transition to begin at our Bécancour trial fields to confirm the plant is True to Type and has the vigour required before your order ships.
