A Piercing Sapphire Light for Shaded Corners
Hosta 'Dark Star' is a fast-growing, low-mounding hosta bred by Randy Herold. It was registered as a cross between H. 'Swoosh' and H. 'Hadspen Heron'. Its slender leaves are a deep medium blue-green, edged in a creamy white margin with a subtle ripple. Hardy across Canadian zones 3–9, it thrives from the West Coast to the Maritimes. It excels at the front of the border or along garden paths where its crisp contrast can be fully appreciated.
-
Radiant Contrast: The creamy white margins frame the sapphire-toned centres, making this variety a standout even in deep shade.
-
Velvety Finish: A dense, waxy coating on both leaf surfaces creates a sophisticated, matte appearance.
-
Vigorous Growth: With its fast growth rate, this variety quickly establishes itself as a reliable front-of-border accent.
-
Elegant Flowers: Medium lavender flowers rise on tall green scapes in summer, adding a beautiful vertical element above the mounded foliage.
