Description

A Living Tribute to Service and Sacrifice

Hosta 'In The Line of Duty' is a profoundly meaningful introduction from our own breeding programme here at Hosta Choice Gardens. We created it as a heartfelt tribute to the brave men and women who serve their country and communities — military personnel, first responders, hospital staff, and all who answer the call. It forms a powerful, upright mound of thick, somewhat shiny dark green foliage that commands respect in any Canadian landscape. The leaves stand tall from early spring emergence until the first frosts, serving as a serene living tribute within the garden. It performs reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3 through 9.

Habit: Tall, vase-shaped upright form with a fountain-like presence — an ideal focal point or sentinel plant for garden entrances and memorial spaces.
Colour: Rich, somewhat shiny dark green — a deep, dignified tone that provides a sense of calm and reflection in the shade border.
Leaf Substance: Thick, leathery, wavy foliage with piecrust edges, ruffled texture, and pointed tips — exceptionally durable and slug resistant.
Flowers: Pale lavender blooms in midsummer on tall scapes above the commanding dark green canopy.
Size: 82 cm (32") tall × 152 cm (60") wide — a large, architectural giant with genuine presence.
Hardiness: Zones 3–9 — reliably cold-hardy from the Pacific to the Atlantic.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	82 cm × 152 cm (32" × 60")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Somewhat shiny dark green; pale lavender flowers
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: 'In The Line of Duty' handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9 — as hardy and dependable as those it was named to honour. Filtered light or afternoon shade keeps the dark green foliage looking its best through the summer heat. At our nursery in Bécancour, QC, we monitor every plant to ensure the upright architecture and leaf density meet our exact standards before shipping. Our True to Type standard means you receive a verified Hosta Choice Gardens introduction, ready to serve as a living tribute in your garden.
