Description

A Rare Spring Blush from a Beloved Hybridizer

Hosta 'Jane's Blush' is a captivating medium-sized cultivar from the late hybridizer Jane Diesen — an unregistered selection that carries the hallmark of her distinctive breeding eye. The heart-shaped, wavy leaves emerge blue-green and develop a stunning purple blush in spring that holds its colour strongly through the summer season. It performs reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3 through 9 and brings a rare, collector-quality presence to the shaded border. As an unregistered Diesen original, it is seldom found outside specialist collections.

Spring Blush: Blue-green leaves develop a striking purple blush in spring — a rare and distinctive trait that sets this cultivar apart from any other blue in the garden.
Colour Holding: The strong purple-blue colour persists well through summer, maintaining its visual impact long after most spring colour fades.
Leaf Form: Heart-shaped, wavy leaves with pointed tips and red petioles — a refined, elegant silhouette with multiple points of interest.
Flowers: Delicate lavender blooms in midsummer on tall scapes above the blue-purple canopy.
Size: 30 cm (12") tall × 66 cm (26") wide — a tidy medium mound well-suited to containers and shaded borders.
Hardiness: Zones 3–9 — reliably cold-hardy across Canada.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	30 cm × 66 cm (12" × 26")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Blue-green with purple blush in spring
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: 'Jane's Blush' handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9, and the purple blush is most vivid in the cool temperatures of a Canadian spring — a seasonal display that rewards patient gardeners. At our nursery in Bécancour, QC, we verify the characteristic spring blush and wavy leaf form before shipping. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic Jane Diesen selection.
