Description

Wide Margins That Draw the Eye from Across the Garden

Hosta 'Luna Moth' is a fast-growing variegated cultivar from hybridizer Bill Meyer, registered by G.H. Alley as a sport of H. 'Parky's Prize'. It quickly forms a symmetrical mound of thick, broadly ovate heart-shaped leaves with a moderate blue-green centre and exceptionally wide yellow-green margins that command attention from a distance. The margin colour shifts through the season from yellow-green to a warm greenish-yellow as summer progresses. It performs reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3 through 9 and is a consistent fast seller whenever stock is available.

Margins: Exceptionally wide yellow-green margins — 3.8–4.6 cm (1.5–1.8") across — one of the most eye-catching margin widths in the medium hosta category.
Centre: Moderate blue-green centre, slightly shiny on top with a glaucous bloom underneath for a two-toned depth.
Seasonal Colour Shift: Margins transition from yellow-green in spring to a warm greenish-yellow through summer, keeping the clump visually dynamic all season.
Growth Rate: Fast — quickly forms a full, symmetrical clump that fills its space with confidence.
Flowers: Medium lavender tubular blooms on frosty pale green scapes 53–56 cm (21–22") tall in mid-June through early July.
Size: 33 cm (13") tall × 91 cm (36") wide — a wide, low mound ideal for borders and containers.
Hardiness: Zones 3–9 — reliably cold-hardy across Canada.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	33 cm × 91 cm (13" × 36")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Blue-green centre, wide yellow-green margin
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: 'Luna Moth' handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9, and its fast growth rate means it fills a border gap quickly — a rare quality in a wide-margined variegated hosta. At our nursery in Bécancour, QC, we verify the signature wide yellow-green margins and blue-green centre before shipping. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic Bill Meyer selection.
