Description

Glossy green texture with fragrant white blooms

Olga Petryszyn and Bill Brincka registered Hosta 'Old Faithful' in 1991. They crossed Hosta plantaginea with 'Regal Rhubarb'. Leathery, glossy green leaves form a vase-shaped mound above red petioles. This fragrant hosta suits Canadian shade gardens in Zones 3–9. Hard to find in commerce, it brings distinctive texture and near-white flowers to shaded borders.

Textured foliage: Leathery, rugose leaves combine a glossy upper surface with a heart-shaped base and 11 vein pairs. Leaves measure 30.5 cm (12") long × 20.3 cm (8") wide.
Red petioles: Red leaf stalks add colour beneath the upright foliage, reflecting its 'Regal Rhubarb' parentage.
Fragrant flowers: Flared, near-white blooms add scent above the green foliage.
Vase-shaped habit: The upright mound brings structure to shaded borders and contrasts beautifully with lower-growing companions.
Collector appeal: This hard-to-find cultivar combines fragrance, glossy texture and colourful petioles.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	58.4 × 91.4 cm (23" × 36")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Medium green leaves with red petioles; near-white flowers
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: 'Old Faithful' was one of our favourite green fragrant hostas in the display gardens when our nursery was in Appin, Ontario, and we will certainly plant it again as we add more gardens at our property in Bécancour, QC. Give it evenly moist, well-drained soil and shade; it handles Canadian winters in Zones 3–9. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic 'Old Faithful' cultivar.
