Description

A Towering Giant That Glows Like Liquid Gold

Glenn Wilson introduced Hosta 'Viking Treasure' as a Hosta Choice Gardens original. It was discovered as a tissue culture sport within a shipment of 1,200 TC plugs of 'Viking Ship'. Three years later, Glenn stabilised it in tissue culture and confirmed it as a distinct cultivar. The leaves are broadly oval, deeply corrugated, and heavily textured with a glaucous bloom that intensifies the golden colour. It thrives in Canadian gardens from Zone 3 through 9 with ease. Plant it as a bold focal point in a shaded border or woodland garden where its scale can be fully appreciated.

Magnificent Stature: Inherits the giant proportions of 'Viking Ship', reaching 71–76 cm (28–30") tall and up to 150–180 cm (60–72") wide at maturity.
Luminous Colour: Emerges chartreuse in spring and transitions to a rich golden-yellow by summer, glowing even on overcast days typical of a Canadian spring.
Architectural Form: The upright, vase-shaped habit and sturdy petioles give it a commanding presence that pairs beautifully with lower-growing blue hostas.
Rugged Texture: Deeply corrugated, heavily veined foliage with a waxy glaucous surface adds bold tactile interest to the shade border.
Lavender Blooms: Pale lavender flowers appear in mid-summer, rising above the foliage on tall scapes.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	71–76 cm × 150–180 cm (28–30" × 60–72")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Chartreuse to golden-yellow
Light Requirements	Partial shade to partial sun

Grower's Tip: 'Viking Treasure' is a vigorous grower that needs room to reach its full potential — allow at least 150 cm (60") of space at planting. It handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9, and we have grown it successfully at our nursery in Bécancour, QC. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic 'Viking Treasure', verified before it leaves Bécancour.
