Hosta 'OHS Love in the Mist' | White Misted Centre Blue Giant Ontario Hosta Society

Description

A Rare Misted Giant — Only Available Every Second Season

Hosta 'OHS Love in the Mist' is the 2006 Ontario Hosta Society Club plant, a tissue-cultured sport of Hosta 'Love Pat'. V. Hillebrandt and the Ontario Hosta Society registered it in 2008. Its defining trait is a white-misted centre on thick blue-green leaves, with a heavily rippled margin that gives each leaf a gently twisted look. By late spring, a unique green misting appears over the white centre, adding a second season of interest. This is one of our top five sellers and one of the most sought-after large hostas for Canadian collectors.

  • Leaf Colour & Pattern: Thick blue-green leaves with a white-misted centre in spring. By late spring, a distinctive green misting develops over the white centre — a two-phase display unlike most hostas.
  • Texture & Form: Heavily rippled margin gives each broadly ovate leaf a gently twisted look. At 23 cm × 23 cm (9" × 9"), the leaves are broader than those of Hosta 'Guardian Angel' — and the overall clump grows larger too. The two share a similar blue-green colouring and broad leaf shape, though they are botanically unrelated: 'Guardian Angel' is a sport of Hosta 'Blue Angel', while 'OHS Love in the Mist' is a tissue-cultured sport of Hosta 'Love Pat'.
  • Size & Growth Rate: Reaches 71 cm (28") tall by 152 cm (60") wide at maturity. An exceptionally fast grower for a hosta of this scale — clumps fill in quickly and make an immediate statement.
  • Flowers: Near-white blooms appear in summer on tall scapes above the foliage.
  • Rarity: Available only every second season and in strictly limited numbers. Once collectors acquire this plant, they rarely divide it — making nursery stock genuinely scarce.
